ARAPAHOE BASIN, Colo. – If you’ve spent any time at Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, you know they throw one heck of a party. And it’s even better when the party is for a good cause! This Saturday, Feb. 7, Arapahoe Basin Ski Area will host the 13th Annual Beacon Bowl & Apres Party. This annual fundraiser benefits the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, a state-run organization that forecasts and reports backcountry avalanche conditions, and also promotes avalanche safety and awareness.

Saturday’s events include a beacon search competition, avalanche dog and equipment demonstrations, and over $13,000 of donated goods in the raffle and silent and live auctions. Noted items up for grabs include: SkiLogik and Blizzard skis, beacons from Pieps, Ortovox, and BCA (including the new Tracker3), clothing from Outdoor Research, several Osprey packs, a Colorado Avalanche jersey signed by all the 2014-15 team members and coach Patrick Roy, concert tickets and more!

There will be on-snow demos from Wilderness Sports (A/T and telemark boots and skis), Cold Smoke Splitboards, and backcountry gear from Mammut, Ortovox and BCA. The après party will also feature live music, discounted New Belgium beer and pizza with all proceeds going to the CAIC. A-Basin has raised over $10,000 last season for the CAIC, and is hoping to break $10,000 yet again this season.

Beacon Bowl competition schedule:
8 a.m.: Beacon Bowl registration starts (A-Frame lodge)
9:15 a.m. – noon: Beacon Bowl prelims for both divisions (on-mountain)
1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.: Beacon Bowl finals for both divisions (on-mountain)
** on-mountain events will take place near the bottom of the Lenawee Mountain Lift

Demos free and open to the public:
9:30 a.m. – 1:00pm: BCA beacon demonstrations (on-mountain)
10:30 a.m.: avalanche dog demonstrations
